Struggling Spanish side Sporting Gijon have sacked their manager Manuel Preciado, club president Manuel Vega Arango confirmed on Tuesday.
Preciado was made to pay the price for the Asturian club's woeful first half of the season that left them second-bottom with just 18 points, and his dismissal came just two days after a humiliating 5-1 defeat to Real Sociedad.
The 54-year-old spent five-and-a-half seasons in charge, leading them to promotion to Spain's top flight following the 2007-08 season.
Assistant coach Inaki Tejada will take control of the team on an interim basis until a new manager is appointed.
Reports in Spain have linked former Getafe boss Michel and ex-Deportivo La Coruna manager Angel Lotina to the job.
