There is more action at the Liverpool counter of this season’s transfer window than the Reds have seen on the pitch in recent times.
King Kenny Dalglish is moving with a man hungry for success (again) and ready to sign on players needed to make the difference.
The inevitable fallout will be for players he brings in to perform from the get-go. A pressure that only builds on the already-existent fervor of playing for the Reds.
Not everyone is convinced of Dalglish’s signings though, and not everyone is sure he is letting go of the right players.
The news this morning in the British press is that £17million Alberto Aquilani is on a season-long loan to Fiorentina.
The Italian midfielder, 27, spent the whole of the last campaign at Juventus.
Bolton Wanderers are eyeing a potential bid for Liverpool striker David Ngog, according to 'The Sun'.
The 22-year-old French striker is wanted by manager Owen Coyle, who believes he can obtain his services for around €3.4 million – half the amount Anfield priced him at last year.
And then there is the question of Lucas, 24, who was signed for £6 million by Rafa Benitez in 2007, has made it clear he will not be happy on the bench.
Club sources have denied the Brazilian wants out, but Lucas’ own quotes in the press yesterday suggest the matter is far from clear.
So much for the going outs… who is coming in?
Reports in the British tabloids indicate that Liverpool need to sell to fund a £17m move for Porto full-back Alvaro Pereira.
Kenny Dalglish is prepared to play a waiting game to land Newcastle rebel Jose Enrique, according to the 'Mirror'.
Enrique himself is desperate to move, and would welcome the chance to go to Anfield, given the club’s obvious ambition.
The Reds have splashed out £49 million on midfielders this summer, bringing in Stewart Downing from Aston Villa, Sunderland’s Jordan Henderson and Blackpool’s Charlie Adam.
That spending spree has created a glut of middle men on Merseyside, with the new boys joining Steven Gerrard, Joe Cole, Raul Meireles, Christian Poulsen, Maxi Rodriguez, Jonjo Shelvey, Jay Spearing and Milan Jovanovic.
The Reds have also snapped up Mexican whizkid striker Marcos Bueno from Pachuca.
The Under-17 World Cup winner said: "I'm very excited to wear the shirt of Liverpool."
The verdict is still out on King Kenny’s plan.
