Emirati trimmer and helmsman, and first Arab sailor to compete in the Volvo Ocean Race, Adil Khalid will be aiming to secure his spot to represent the UAE at the Rio Olympics sailing competition, when he takes part in the ASAF Asian Championship 2016 UAE, the Continental Qualifier for Rio 2016.

Khalid will compete in the Men’s One Person Laser Standard Dinghy competition, and will be up against representatives of 12 other nations including Bahrain, China, India, Iran, Japan, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar and Thailand, in a hotly contested battle for two Olympic spots.

The 2016 Summer Olympics will be hosted by Brazil in the country’s second largest city, Rio de Janeiro, with sailing scheduled to be held between August 5 and 21, at Marina da Gloria in Guanabara Bay, Brazil.
