Ahmed lifts Ibsons with all-round display

Fayaz Ahmed produced a fine all-round performance as Ibsons CC defeated Abu Dhabi Gymkhana by 29 runs in the KFC Emirates T20 Club Cricket League 2013 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

The tournament is organised for the first time ever by the Emirates Cricket Board’s Domestic Cricket Development Committee (ECB - DCDC) and is presented by Grand Midwest Hotels.

Abu Dhabi Gymkhana’s decision to field first paid dividends rattling Ibsons who lost three quick wickets.

Thanks to a gritty 54 off 43 balls from Fayaz, Ibsons managed to reach a respectable 122 for nine in 19 overs. Adel Raja was the pick of the bowlers claiming three wickets.

Chasing a modest total, Abu Dhabi Gymkhana opener Irfan Haider (24, 26b, 3x4) and Ghulam Fareed (27, 34b, 3x4) provided a strong foundation but Fayaz Ahmed came up with a special spell claiming four wickets that saw Abu Dhabi Gymkhana lose nine wickets for just 39 runs.

He gave away only 12 runs in 3.4 overs as Abu Dhabi Gymkhana were bundled out for 93 in 18.4 overs.

In another match, Danube Lions scored a 20-run victory over Interface.

Batting first, Danube Lions were led by a brilliant half century from Yasir Shah (55, 38b, 4x4, 1x6) and well supported by Asif Iqbal (26), Rohan Mustafa (21) and Vikranth Shetty (21) as they reached a healthy 158 for seven in 20 overs.

Eklavya Divedi scored a 45-ball 57 to provide a strong reply and was well assisted by Jagrit Anand (37 not out). 

But they lost their way losing wickets regularly that completely showed down their run flow and managed to reach only 138 for eight in 20 overs. Malan took two wickets for winners.
