Saeed Al Marri, the general secretary of the UAE Padel Association (UAE PA) teamed up with Hassan Sharif Al Marzouqi to defeat Abdullah Ahli and Ahmed Hussain 6-1, 6-3 to be crowned the new padel champions in the UAE Nationals category at the 4th Nad Al Sheba (NAS) Ramadan Sports Tournament.
In the final played at the NAS Padel courts on Thursday, Saeed Al Marri and Hassan Sharif Al Marzouqi were in total control as they outplayed their opponents in a rather one-sided final.
In the play-off for third place, last year’s champion Mohammed Al Janahi, who had teamed up with former UAE Davis Cup player Rashid Bushaqar, went down in three sets against Mohammed Al Mansoori and Mohammed Ahli.
Mohammed Al Janahi and Rashid Bushagar did well to claim the opening set with a break in the 12th game. But after that, Mohammed Al Mansoori and Mohammed Ahli just dug in deep waiting for their opponents to make the mistakes to win the next two sets 7-5 and 6-3.
Meanwhile, the best eight teams were decided for the futsal quarter-finals later in the night. With just two more spots on offer in Groups A and B, it was Al Habtoor and Al Theyaba advancing to the knockout stages in comprehensive style.
Al Habtoor hammered Al Ain Youth 9-0 to deny Tornado-4, while Al Theyaba hammered the Desert team 7-1 to cut off the last bit of hope for Desert.
Held under the patronage of Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Sports Council, this year’s three-week long sporting extravaganza is being sponsored by Land Rover, Al Tayer Motors, RTA, Emaar, Emirates Airline, Al Naboodah, Ahmed Siddiqui & Sons and Arabian Automobiles Al Rostamani Motors with a total prize fund of Dh 8 million.
