Pakistan’s Legends Tour will make its debut in Dubai when a Ryder Cup-style competition is played on Earth and Fire courses at Jumeirah Golf Estates from March 1 to 3.

Primarily an amateur golf league, the Tour is aimed at creating a deep sense of camaraderie among Pakistani players, who share the same passion by providing them with a platform which has the feel of a professional tour.

The three-day event, known as the Greenshield Cup, will see teams from Lahore, Karachi and Dubai contest for honours following the Ryder Cup format of foursomes and singles over three days.

Sponsored by Greenshield Insurance and Habib Bank Limited, the triangular tournament would also help create a window of opportunity for generating funds for talented Pakistan pros who can perform admirably on international circuit, but for want of finances.

Pakistani pros flashed a glimpse of their abundance of talent on the MENA Golf Tour last year with Muhammed Munir and Shafiq Masih winning one event each on the tour’s schedule which attracted top-class players from all the over the world.

With the Legends Tour expanding its network internationally, it will provide participants with an opportunity for networking and team-building in a relaxed and social atmosphere.

The brain child of golf enthusiast Imran Habib and his regular golf partner Adil Haji, the tour held its first tournament in Karachi in 2010. Since then it has never looked back and now boasts a solid subscriber base.

The Karachi leg of the tour runs events based on the FEDEX Cup format where the season runs from September to March while the first Legends Classic (Karachi v Lahore tournament) was played at the Royal Palm Golf and Country Club in Lahore back in 2010.

Since then Karachi and Lahore have played each other four more times at different venues, including Abu Dhabi.

The opening of an international chapter of the Legends Tour in Dubai promises to set in motion the all-round growth of golf in Pakistan.
