World champions Portugal kicked off the Samsung Beach Soccer Intercontinental Cup Dubai 2015 in style with an impressive 5-3 win over Mexico while Egypt edged out hosts UAE 3-2 on the opening day of competition at Dubai International Marine Club on Tuesday.
Tahiti notched a clinical 4-2 win over Iran while Russia trounced Argentina 5-1 to round off the opening day's action.
Portugal broke the stout Mexican defence with an excellent goal from Torres and held the 1-0 lead going into the middle frame.
The World Cup champions flexed their muscles to score their second goal through Belchior early in the frame.
Two more strikes hit the back of the net but Portugal did not feel safe with the slim two-goal lead.
Skipper Madjer stretched their lead to 4-1.
The closed the gap with a couple of strikes but when the final buzzer sounded, the score remained 5-3 for Portugal.
Egypt strikes late
Late strikes broke UAE hearts as Egypt notched their first win in Dubai.
Egyptians scored the last two goals to earn three points to silence the fans.
The score stayed at 1-1 going into the last period.
The lead did not last long as the African side scored the equaliser before they secured a 3-2 win.
