4th Fazza Powerlifting begins on Wednesday

The 4th Fazza Powerlifting Championships will get underway at the Dubai Club for Special Sports on Wednesday, with the events beginning at 10am while opening ceremony will be at 8.30 pm.

Nearly 230 athletes from 46 countries will be competing in this week-long competition that is scheduled to conclude on February 27.

The championships is being organised by the Dubai Sports Council, the UAE Association of Sports for the Handicapped and theD ubai Club for Special Sports.

The UAE has 15-member squad led by Mohammed Khamis and will start its campaign from Wednesday.

Powerlifters from Argentina, Armenia, Australia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Brazil, Bulgaria, Cameron, Egypt, Ethiopia, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Ghana, Great Britain, Greece, Hungary, Iraq, Ivory Coast, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Kyrgyzstan, Liberia, Libya, Mexico, Moldova, Morocco, Holland, Nigeria, Oman, Philippines, Poland, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Slovakia, Sri Lanka, Syria, Tajikistan, Thailand, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Ukraineand and Uzbekistan will join athletes from the host nation during the competition.

The technical meeting of delegates was held on Tuesday morning.

The competitions will be held in two sessions - from 8am to 1pm and from 3pm to 8pm. The final day of the contest will be on Sunday with just one session in the morning followed by the closing ceremony at 7pm.

The championship will be governed by IPC Powerlifting rules and there will be strict doping control as per norms and regulations laid down by the IPC and WADA.
