Axiom outgun UAE Falcons for title

Axiom emerged men's champions for the third time at the annual Lusitanians Sports Club Invitational 11-a-side Hockey Tournament when they beat UAE Falcons (Red) in the final.

The one-day event was held on the artificial hockey surface at Dubai Sports City for the first time.

In an evenly contested final, Axiom got the better of UAE Falcons (Red) holding their nerve to win 3-2 in the tie-breaker after being goalless in regulation time. Saleem, Sheriyar and Abid Malik saw them through, while Mohammed Omer and Emmanuel scored for the UAE Falcons.

The event was sponsored by UAE Exchange and Oilfields Supply Center Ltd; co-sponsored by SMATS Group was also supported by Blue Fin International Shipping, Freight Systems, United Colour Film, New Medical Center, Sharjah Airport Authorities and Super Max International.

“After organising the first hockey tournamentat DSC, we are very pleased with positives on both the facility and the event,” said Patrick Vaz, chief organiser of the tournament.

In the third-fourth place play-off, Golden Sports Club (Hockey Malad) from Mumbai edged out Arabian Field Hockey Club after Sunil scored in regulation time.

Former India hockey captain and Olympian Jude Felix was the guest of honour and presented the individual honour awards.
