Dubai Lions down Fly Emirates
Anwar Khan almost single-handedly guided Dubai Lions to a comfortable seven-wicket win over Fly Emirates in the Debonair Pizza T20 Cricket Cup, held under the auspices of the Dubai Cricket Council, at the Fairground Oval at Dubai Men’s College.
Chasing a modest target of 135 set by Fly Emirates, opener Anwar made light of the target when he went after the Fly Emirates bowlers from the start.
Slamming five boundaries and a huge six, Anwar won the match for Dubai Lions by the 19th over and also bagged the man of the match award for his unbeaten 71-ball 78.
Anwar’s dominance of the match was so much that his teammates - Afzal Shah (17) and Waqas Tariq (13) - contribution looked negligible.
Earlier Fly Emirates failed to capitalise on the good start given by their openers Amjad Javed (29) and Arshad Ali (19), who together put on 33 runs.
Shaheer Reyal played a cameo in the middle with a brisk unbeaten 32 but none of the other batsmen could make any valuable contribution to propel the team to a healthy total.
Dubai Lions beat Fly Emirates by 7 wickets: Fly Emirates 134 for 7 in 20 overs (Shaheer Reyal 32 no, Amjad Javed 29, Marlon Fernando 26, Arshad Ali 19; Waqas Tariq 1-25, Habib Tariq 1-29, Khurram Hussain 1-14, Afzal Shah 1-32, Yusuf Mohammed 1-18) lost to Dubai Lions 135 for 3 in 19.1 overs (Anwar Khan 78 no, Afzal Shah 17, Waqas Tariq 13, Naveed Sabdar 10).
Man of the match: Anwar Khan of Dubai Lions.
