Stefan Friborg, the owner of the 2010 Dubai World Cup winner, Gloria de Campeao, will sponsor the ninth meeting of the Dubai World Cup Carnival on Saturday March 2, when his Stud Estrela Energia puts its name to a high class Meydan card worth $1.1m, according to the Dubai Racing Club.

Featuring the $250,000 Group 2 Zabeel Mile and the $200,000 Group 3 Nad Al Sheba Trophy, the meeting is the second Dubai World Cup Carnival card to be held over the weekend, with the first taking place on Thursday.

“As the first winner of the 2010 Dubai World Cup at Meydan Racecourse, I am proud to once again have the opportunity to sponsor and contribute to the sport of kings. We at Stud Estrela Energia wish Meydan all the best for the remainder of the 2012/2013 racing season as well as the 2013 Dubai World Cup,” said Friborg, who maintains a string of horses in Dubai.

Malih Al Basti, a Meydan Group Board Member and Chairman of the Meydan Racing Committee said: “It is fantastic to welcome Stud Estrela Energia to Meydan.

"Stefan Friborg is a valued supporter of racing in Dubai and his colours, which were carried to a memorable victory in the 2010 Dubai World Cup by Gloria de Campeao, will be familiar to racing fans all over the world.

“Mr Friborg made history when he won the first Dubai World Cup to be held at Meydan and I am in no doubt that we will see him continue to build on that achievement in the future.”

Stud Estrela is located just outside Rio De Janerio in Brazil, 900 meters above sea level, providing perfect weather conditions for training all year round.

The training centre facility has three different tracks with sand, grass and fiber surfaces and is equipped with flood lights to allow horses to acclimatise to the shadows created when racing under artificial lighting conditions. Stud Estrela also races horses in Sweden and Australia.

Admission is free to the public areas of Meydan Racecourse and tickets start at Dh25, gates open at 5pm and the first race starts at 6.30pm.

Dubai World Cup General Admission is now on sale at Dh25 per person for the public areas of the racecourse.

Children under 12-years of age will be admitted free for Dubai World Cup.

All General Admission tickets will be pre-sold on all race nights, at the Ticket Booth opposite Gate B and from the Ticket Sales Office located at Ramp B – Meydan Grandstand during the week.
