Friends United Mumbai retain hockey title

Defending champions Friends United Sports Club from Mumbai thumped Dubai Hockey Club 5-0 to win the UAE Exchange Cup 2011 in the women’s tournament organised by Lusitanians Sports Club at the Dubai Scholars School ground on Saturday.

The tournament was sponsored by UAE Exchange and co-sponsored by SMATS Group.
Dubai HC missed their three front-line players, Melanie, Pamela and Ginger, but the Mumbai-based outfit, displayed excellent team-work in all departments of the game.
Jemima Monterio was on a roll scoring three goals while team-mate Vishaka Dodke notched up a brace of goals. Jemima was the tournament’s top scorer with eight goals.
Sara Manohar of Dubai Scholars won the best goal-keeper while Nimmy Nair of Friends United won the player of the tournament award.
Jolize Bester of Cambridge High School, Abu Dhabi was named the promising player of the tournament.
Earlier, in the semifinals, Friends United beat Dubai Scholars 5-0 while Dubai HC beat Lusitanians 3-2 via penalties after regulation time ended goalless.
Dubai Scholars won the third place defeating Lusitanians 1-0.
