Lusitanians hockey tourney at Dubai Sports City

Lusitanians Sports Club (LSC) is organising the 13th edition of the Invitation 11-a-side hockey tournament (Men and Women) on Friday at Dubai Sports City, Dubai.

The main sponsors for this event are UAE Exchange and Oilfields Supply Center Ltd. The co-sponsor is SMATS Services JLT/Aussie Property.

"This is a big day for Lusitanians as we will be the first Sports Club to organize a tournament on the Astroturf hockey grounds of prestigious Dubai Sports City and we thank DSC for their co-operation," said Patrick Vaz, Chief Organiser of the event.

Defending champions – UAE Falcons (Green), Dubai HC, Loose Cannons, UAE Falcons Red, United Thalassery, Beatrice HC, Sharjah Tigers, Arabian Field HC, Blue Rhine Republicans, Axiom HC, Trupac HC and Hockey Malad (from Bombay) are the 12 ‘Men’ teams who have confirmed their participation.

The teams will be divided into four groups and games of 20 minutes (one-way) will be played on a round-robin basis. The top two teams from each group will qualify for the knock-out. The losing semifinalists will contest for the third place trophy.

Dubai Hockey Club, UAE Falcons, Blue Rhine Republicans, Dubai Scholars and Cambridge High School (Abu Dhabi) are the five ‘Women’ teams that will participate. The teams will play games of 15 minutes (one-way) on a round-robin basis. The top two teams will play the final while the next two will play for the third place trophy.

Former India team captain and Olympian Jude Felix will be present as Guest of Honour.

Supporters of the event include Blue Fin Int’l. Shipping, United Colour Films, Freight Systems, Sharjah Airport Authorities, Super-Max International and New Medical Center.
