Two former American Football professionals Brandon Short and Dan Upperco will be hosting a Super Bowl event in Abu Dhabi on Monday when the Baltimore Ravens take on San Francisco 49ers in the National Football League Championship finale at New Orleans.

The Clubhouse Restaurant at the Tennis Centre at Zayed Sports City is the venue for the Super Bowl party, with the organisers donating a part of the receipts to an educational charity.

"Brandon Short and I will be explaining the game, rules and positions starting at 7pm for those who are not that familiar with American football. As Brandon and I are former NFL players we are hoping it will make learning about the game that much more engaging," said Upperco who was a Tight End for the Los Angeles - Oakland Raiders.

"The pre-game show is then planned to start at 7.30 with the kick-off before 8.00pm. As you know, the Super Bowl is more than just football and we want to use this opportunity to be ambassadors of the sport along with elements of American culture," he added.

Short is a as a linebacker in the NFL for seven seasons. He played college football for Penn State University, and was recognised as an All-American. He played professionally for the New York Giants and Carolina Panthers of the NFL, and was a member the Giants' team that played in Super Bowl XXXV.

Upperco signed with the Raiders in 1985 after achieving All Ivy League honors 3 years running at Columbia University.  Following his football career he was a former two term Vice President of the NFL Retired Players Association - New York Chapter.
