The Sheikha Hind Women’s Sports Tournament will open at the Ballroom 4 of the Dubai World Trade Centre on December 17.
Held under the patronage of Sheikha Hind bint Maktoum Bin Juma Al Maktoum, Wife of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, the sports tournament is meant to encourage women to come out and actively participate in fitness and sports activities.
The tournament is being held under the directives of Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Sports Council. It is being organised by the Women’s Sports Committee of the Dubai Sports Council with participation open to women employed in various departments and institutions of Dubai Government.
Competitions will be held in six sporting disciplines including basketball, volleyball, handball, chess, badminton and table tennis.
Organisers led by Laila Suhail, chairperson of the Women’s Sports Committee at the Dubai Sports Council are expecting in excess of 200 women to participate in this sports event.
“We want to have this event as a family day out for the women and the children of Dubai Government employees,” said Laila Suhail.
“The idea is not about winning or losing, but participating in an activity so that girls and women make sports a lifestyle,” she added.
Entry is free and open to the general public. There will be raffle draws held throughout the competition with lucky persons standing a chance to win various gifts from sponsors Paris Gallery, Air France, Dubai Duty Free and others.
