Dubai: If you failed your driving test in Dubai, don’t worry – booking another appointment is easy. What’s important to know, however, is that you will need to complete additional driving lessons before retaking your practical test.

Here are all the steps that follow an unsuccessful driving test, along with test fees, and important deadlines that are worth adding to your calendar.

When can I complete another driving test?

The good news is that there’s no restriction on the number of times you can fail your driving test – but each retest comes with a fee, and before retaking a driving test, you will need to complete four additional training sessions (sometimes up to eight, based on your driving skill level), according to the Roads and Transport Authority’s (RTA) website.

After completing the required training, you may have to wait up to 14 working days for a test appointment.

Can I reschedule the driving test?

Your appointment date can be changed or rescheduled via the RTA’s website, or through your chosen driving institute up to 24 hours before the test. However, if you miss the scheduled date, you must book another appointment and pay the fee again.

It is also possible to move your test up to an earlier date, if one becomes available, by paying a fee of Dh320.

Note, however, that the RTA has a strict six-month deadline for tests. Your training file will be suspended if you do not take a driving test – whether Knowledge, Yard, or Road test – within six months from your last appointment date.

How much does retaking a driving test cost?

Here is the fee schedule, according to the RTA:

  • Road test: Dh200
  • Knowledge and innovation fee: Dh20

If your test has been booked during official public holidays, you may have to pay additional charges to your driving institute.

How do I book a driving test appointment?

After completing your mandatory driving lessons, you can attempt a driving test again. Book an appointment online via RTA’s portal, or directly through your driving institute.

Follow these steps to book via the RTA:

  • Visit RTA’s website – rta.ae – and log in with your UAE PASS.
  • Navigate to ‘RTA Services’ , select ‘Drivers’ and click on ‘Apply for Booking and Changing a Driving Test Appointment’.
  • Select which test you’d like to apply for – here, you will need to select ‘Road Test’ from the menu options.
  • Enter your learning permit application number and date of birth.
  • Next, select your preferred test date, or if you already have one and need to change it, you can make the change here, provided that it’s more than 24 hours before the test date.
  • Pay the fees.
  • You will receive your payment receipt and appointment confirmation via SMS and email.

The RTA advises arriving at least 30 minutes before your scheduled test, so you can complete the registration process, and wait for your turn.
