Dubai Police impound 10,539 vehicles and bicycles, issue 4,709 jaywalking fines

Dubai:: Dubai Police impounded 10,539 vehicles and bicycles and issued 4,709 fines for crossing roads at undesignated locations in 2025 as part of intensified efforts to tackle dangerous road behaviour and improve traffic safety across the emirate. The figures were reviewed by His Excellency Lieutenant General Abdulla Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police, during his annual inspection of the General Department of Traffic, where he also examined the department’s operational performance, artificial intelligence applications, development projects and community feedback. Lt Gen Al Marri stressed the importance of modernising traffic management, strengthening operational readiness and expanding the use of AI and advanced digital solutions to improve road safety, enhance enforcement and respond proactively to emerging challenges. He said these efforts support the Dubai Government’s vision of building a smart, sustainable security system that places people’s safety and quality of life at the forefront. Traffic enforcement results During the inspection, specialised traffic teams presented their enforcement results for 2025, which included the impoundment of 3,434 motor vehicles and 7,105 bicycles and electric bicycles. The department also reviewed public complaints received through the Police Eye service, the 901 Contact Centre and the 04 platform. These included 750 reports concerning excessive vehicle noise and 926 complaints about reckless driving. To address these concerns, Dubai Police established specialised field teams across six areas to monitor violations, intensify patrols and target locations where dangerous driving and disruptive behaviour occur repeatedly. Lt Gen Al Marri emphasised that public feedback is essential to improving police services and determining operational priorities. He called for greater use of data from smart reporting platforms to direct enforcement and awareness campaigns towards the behaviours and locations posing the greatest risks. Vehicle violations under review An analysis of offences involving excessive vehicle noise, reckless driving and illegal vehicle modifications identified the vehicle categories most frequently associated with such violations. The findings will help guide targeted enforcement operations, identify priority audiences for awareness campaigns and support preventive measures aimed at reducing dangerous driving. Lt Gen Al Marri instructed the department to continue developing its traffic analysis tools, connect findings with field operations and regularly evaluate the effectiveness of enforcement measures. AI and smart traffic operations Lt Gen Al Marri inspected the Traffic Operations Room, where he reviewed the systems used to manage road incidents, analyse traffic information and optimise the deployment of patrols and operational resources. He was briefed on plans to develop an integrated smart traffic management system using predictive data analysis to identify emerging risks, support operational decisions and address traffic challenges before they escalate. The inspection also covered development initiatives designed to streamline procedures, improve service delivery, accelerate response times and strengthen integration between traffic management systems. Lt Gen Al Marri reviewed the traffic safety platform, Aman Roads, and its role in promoting responsible road behaviour through modern technologies, data analysis and preventive awareness initiatives. He stressed the importance of combining technological innovation with effective enforcement and public education to reduce accidents and protect lives and property. Developing specialist expertise As part of his visit, Lt Gen Al Marri inspected a training programme for 20 traffic accident investigation specialists. The programme aims to strengthen officers’ technical and professional capabilities in accident examination, investigation and analysis through advanced scientific and technological methods. Preparing for future traffic challenges Lt Gen Al Marri called for greater coordination between police departments, stations and strategic partners to address the demands associated with Dubai’s urban expansion, population growth and developing road network. He highlighted the importance of flexible, data-informed planning, proactive solutions and effective resource management to maintain the emirate’s position as a leading global city for safety and quality of life. Recognising contributions to school safety At the conclusion of his inspection, Lt Gen Al Marri toured the department’s facilities and reviewed its services. He honoured several school security guards, traffic management volunteers and school officials for their contributions to maintaining safe traffic movement around educational institutions and protecting pupils, parents and other road users.
