Is this fox frozen or embalmed?

A film of a fox said to have frozen to death during a snowstorm in Saudi Arabia has triggered public controversy, with some saying the film is only of an embalmed fox.

Ajel Arabic language daily published the brief film showing the fox appeared to have frozen after falling in a pond and jumping out during subzero temperatures in a snowstorm in the northwestern town of Hail near the border with Jordan.

“Some viewers of the film which was circulated on social networks believe the fox had frozen to death while others say the picture is a fake and it is only of an embalmed fox as part of a foul play by its maker,” the paper said.

It quoted experts as saying animals could freeze to death in such weather in North Saudi Arabia last week but they doubted that the fox froze while standing.

“More readers said the fox is embalmed,” the paper said, inviting more readers to examine the film below.
