National Day is cherished occasion to confirm values laid down by UAE forefathers: Hamdan

Preparations in Dubai are afoot to celebrate the 42nd UAE National Day; the crown jewel of national occasions that mark the comprehensive renaissance of the UAE led by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai and Their Highnesses Supreme Council Members and Rulers of the Emirates.

On this auspicious occasion, Dubai Crown Prince and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum stressed the importance of keeping up these celebrations to observe the symbol of unity of the people of the UAE and their blessed march toward the future.

Hamdan praised the adherence to the genuine values and traditions passed on from the forefathers who laid the foundations of this beloved country; values that have created a generation aware of the challenges, filled with determination to overcome obstacles with firm belief and continue the development march.

Sheikh Hamdan said: “Our annual celebration of the Union Day is an occasion manifested by joy reflecting the sincere simmering love for the country and the true loyalty to our wise leadership.

“On this occasion, we re-emphasise our national constants, and show the world our pride in our country, our unity and the cohesion among our people which is the root of our pride.”

“We look forward to celebrations that include everyone and involve all spectrums of society… “There is no match for this much-loved anniversary that celebrates the completion of the foundations our beloved country.

“We celebrate our union under one banner; the symbol of our pride and dignity and to which we affirm our full allegiance,” Sheikh Hamdan added.

The main celebration of the National Day in Dubai, scheduled on the first evening of December 1, is considered the icon of all aspects of celebration, which would be extended to various corners of the emirate.

‘Burj Park Island’, adjacent to ‘Burj Khalifa’ was selected to be the venue of the celebration.

The event is expected to attract huge public participation from both citizens and residents to express their joy of the day on which the dream of the truthful and sincere founders laid the foundations of the Union and a leadership that spares no effort in achieving people's satisfaction and happiness.

Various departments, agencies and government bodies in Dubai will participate in the National Day celebrations and will include many of the activities that highlight the core values established by the Union, as well as promote UAE’s heritage and cultural aspects associated with this anniversary in the form of art shows and traditional dishes and others as a conduit for the people of the UAE to express their happiness with this occasion.

Fireworks will represent an important part of the celebrations to mark the National Day celebrations for their impact in expressing joy on this precious occasion. Fireworks will be displayed in a number of vital areas in the emirate, as well as the sites of attraction, including the ‘Burj Al Arab’ which will host a special celebration with details to be unveiled soon.

The Bicycle Marathon under the slogan ‘Flag-to-Flag’ will be on the agenda of the National Day celebrations. The marathon will be held on December 2, under the patronage of Dubai Crown Prince and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and overseen by his office and the presidential guard, in a gesture of tribute to the Union Flag, first raised by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the founder of the UAE.

The marathon will kick off from the assembly point at the UAE flagpole at the Union House in Dubai and finish at the UAE flagpole on the Corniche in Abu Dhabi.

There will be two break points and public facilities for the participants and fans before they reach the flagpole in Abu Dhabi.

The ‘Dubai Committee for the celebrations of the National Day’ has been formed in accordance with directives by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum to draw plans and set programmes for the National Day celebrations and to oversee their implementation in the emirate, and determine the messages and goals of every celebration in coordination with the Federal National Day Committee tasked with overseeing National Day celebrations.
