Kareena’s Dubai confession: I'm not slim, pics photoshopped

She’s a star like no other.

And, Kareena Kapoor made that abundantly clear while making a dramatic entrance to meet the Dubai media for her new movie ‘Heroine’.

She descended from the skies, and minutes after she stepped out of a sea-plane, she was escorted to a yacht docked at the Jebel Ali Golf Resort and Spa.

It was clearly a press conference that attempted to be different, almost in keeping with the vibe of the film.

And Bebo was the icing on the cake!

Dressed in a breezy, Halston Heritage fuschia dress, Bollywood’s blue-blooded princess looked every bit the star of the evening and wore her attitude with panache.

No question went unanswered, even the one that suspected whether her real body matched the one on the sizzling hot ‘Halkat Jawani’ poster.

“I don’t think I’m so slim. I’d definitely go back to the hotel and check out if it’s really my body,” she quipped.

“That picture does look photoshopped. Every picture for every film, every ad, every newsprint, does get photoshopped. It is a business, photoshop.

“Everyone is doing it today.

“In fact, ‘Heroine’s posters have not been photoshopped as much as other movie posters. This is the figure that you will see in the song.”

When quizzed about whether she was done playing second fiddle to the Khans in the industry and was finally grabbing the spotlight with central roles, she maintained, “This isn’t the first time I’m doing a female-centric film. There has been a ‘Chameli’ or an ‘Omkara’, or a ‘Jab We Met’.

“I’ve never shied away from taking risks. But of course, being glamorous and running around trees with Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan is also part of my job.”

She even complimented her “screen rival” Katrina Kaif as being “absolutely gorgeous” and brushed aside the evidence of any rivalry.

“I’ve actually never felt there is a comparison. I actually think it’s terrible that media keeps putting us in that space. I think it’s film to film. What works for her, need not necessarily work for me, and vice-versa.”

‘Heroine’s’ director Madhur Bhandarkar remained politically correct, and spared no chance to gush about his leading lady, insisting that the negative shades of her racy, screen image didn’t match her real-life, down-to-earth persona. “In real, she’s very chilled out.”

He, however, admitted that his protagonist’s journey was inspired by the lives of many actresses, and not just one. “It isn’t based on any one individual,” he insisted.

The story of the trials and tribulations of an actress is what ‘Heroine’ puts the spotlight on, with Bebo admitting that many of the insecurities and issues portrayed are 80% real. “He (Madhur) says it’s 70 per cent real, but I think it’s 80 per cent.”

And, some that are even her own.

“There have been so many scenes that I could relate to. Obviously the levels of insecurity are different, and each person reacts differently.”

There ended the similarities. “There is a difference between Mahie (her character in the film) and me.

“I wouldn’t make some of the decisions that she makes in the film,” she clarified.

“An actress’ life is not all about sashaying in pretty, chiffon sarees.

“There’s also the ups and downs, which Madhur has beautifully captured in the film.”

And, if the movie does brisk business, there’s even a holiday awaiting the Kapoor.

“If the film does a certain amount of business, which I can’t reveal details of, then I will only be happy to treat them to a holiday,” added the film’s producer and head honcho of Disney UTV, Siddarth Roy Kapur.

The movie has suffered its own share of ups and downs, with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan allegedly walking out of the film due to her pregnancy, and Bebo taking it on.

“Like I’ve said so many times before, this movie was destined for me. I’ve always wanted to work with Madhur, ever since ‘Page 3’ and ‘Fashion’.”

The movie, which also stars Arjun Rampal and Randeep Hooda in the lead roles, will release (in India) on September 21, which is incidentally Bebo’s birthday.
