BlackBerry unveiled its new premium luxury device, the Porsche Design P9983 and promised to extend its lead role in the luxury and premium phone models.

The company chose one of Dubai`s luxury hotels – the Sofitel Palm Resorts at the Palm Jumeirah – to unveil the device. and present on the occasion was none other than .

To put it in context, GCC markets constitute about 30 per cent of all Porsche Design sales across the world.

Speaking to Emirates 24|7, Juergen Gessler, President and CEO of the Porsche Design Group said, “We are number one when it comes to this market segment of premium devices. The P9983 extends the class to those who love the QWERTY keyboard on a BB10 device.”

Made of stainless steel design, the Q10-lookalike device is more of a status symbol. It functions like any other BlackBerry device, but comes with a special BBM Pin.

The 3.1-inch device has a screen resolution of 720x720, 1.5GHz dual-core Qualcomm processor, 8MP rear and 2MP front cameras, 2GB of RAM and 64GB of storage.

Gessler is confident that the P9983 will beat last year's sales numbers. “Overall, we sold about 70,000 units across the globe. GCC was one of our biggest market. This year we hope to do better,” he said.
