NMC Healthcare on Monday unveiled the UAE’s largest private sector hospital, the $200 million NMC Royal Hospital at Khalifa City in Abu Dhabi.

The 75,000 sq. metre NMC Royal Hospital will be the first of its kind in the private sector, providing world-class emergency, critical and acute cardiovascular care.

Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak al Nahyan, Minister of Culture and Knowledge Development, inaugurated the NMC Royal Hospital at a grand event attended by over 800 dignitaries, medical professionals and media.  The delegates were given a tour of the facility which encompasses an umbrella of medical care specialisations.

Speaking on the occasion, Sheikh Nahyan said, "The NMC Royal Hospital is the first hospital to be completed on the land awarded by the Executive Council of Abu Dhabi and Health Authority of Abu Dhabi in accordance with the Abu Dhabi Vision 2030 plan."

Congratulating Dr. B R Shetty, Executive Vice Chairman and CEO of NMC Healthcare on this achievement, Sheikh Nahyan said that Dr. Shetty’s vision, indefatigable spirit and enthusiasm have made him an active partner in the progress of the UAE and an architect contributing to building its infrastructure.

Dr. Shetty said, "The opening of the hospital brings long-awaited state-of-the-art medical services, healthcare facilities and emergency care to the residents of Abu Dhabi and the UAE at large."

With built in observation unit, operation theatre and manned by emergency specialists with quick access to radiology, the emergency department at NMC Royal Hospital is all set to raise the standard of care in the management of acute emergencies.  Besides stroke and cardiac emergencies, the observation unit at the emergency department will also cover treatment for diabetic emergencies, hypertension concerns and uncomplicated respiratory infections, with the goals of reducing unnecessary hospitalisations, improving patient outcomes and decreasing healthcare costs.

Dr. Shetty added, "NMC Royal Hospital is equipped with the most advanced technology, and its medical staff are trained in best global healthcare practices delivering quality healthcare."

The new hospital, located in Khalifa City, is convenient for residents of Khalifa City, Al Raha, Mohamed bin Zayed City, Masdar City, Abu Dhabi International Airport, Shahama and Yas Island, all suburbs which, according to the Abu Dhabi Economic Vision 2030, are expected to house around one-fifth of the emirate’s total population by 2030.

Set up as a greenfield project from funds accrued via the listing of the company on the London Stock Exchange, the NMC Royal Hospital is an example of how NMC is bringing back the funds generated overseas to invest in the home country.

"As the population of the capital moves further in to mainland Abu Dhabi, NMC Royal Hospital is the answer for the residents’ need for a local hospital here," said Dr. Shetty, "We are committed to bringing in international standards in healthcare to the residents of our country."

"I would like to extend my gratitude to the Rulers, the regulators and my international investors for always providing their invaluable support and helping to take UAE healthcare to the next level" concluded Dr. Shetty.
