New Zealand Trade and Enterprise (NZTE), NZ’s international business development agency, has appointed Haylon Smith as Trade Commissioner for the Middle East, Africa and Pakistan.

Based in Dubai, Haylon is also the Deputy Consul-General for Dubai and Northern Emirates.

“I am honoured to be appointed as the NZ Trade Commissioner to the UAE,” said Smith.

“The GCC is an important trading partner for New Zealand, with huge potential for our businesses with current two-way trade at $4.6 billion (Dh16.8 billion).”

Smith said is the opportunity within food and agriculture is of particular interest to him.

“New Zealand exports around 90 per cent of its agricultural production. The produce is high-quality, healthy and halal which makes it a perfect fit for the GCC market,” he said.

“NZ companies are becoming increasingly active in the region and offering products that appeal to consumers in the GCC, especially Dubai. I am looking forward to working with New Zealand companies as they continue to export high quality produce into the UAE,” he added.
