Although his project The Trump International Hotel and Tower may have been cancelled in Dubai's Palm Jumeirah, Donald Trump is quite “jealous” of the UAE’s achievements which include the world’s tallest tower – the Burj Khalifa.

“The Middle East, and especially the Gulf, has shown tremendous effort and growth in the real estate and property sectors in recent years. It is amazing what has been accomplished and I am jealous,” Trump said at the Middle East Facilities Management Association (MEFMA) conference.

“The GCC is now home to the tallest tower in the world, host to the World Cup in 2022, the first Ferrari Theme Park and the amazing Palm Jumeirah manmade island, among other incredible developments. It is really amazing what has been accomplished.”

Trump also emphasised that all these projects make the Gulf region an important player in the emerging world.

“All this major development has a huge impact and a great influence on the Facilities Management industry and professionals in sectors such as real estate, hospitality, retail and healthcare. That is where the future is,” he added.

The UAE has been ranked top among the GCC countries with construction projects worth of $636 billion, while the will witness completion of over $1 trillion worth of major projects by 2020, according to MEED.

CPH World Media, a business research and intelligence firm, pointed out earlier that the UAE has the largest number of active projects in the Middle East. The country has over 1,200 projects, valued at $931 billion, under way for 2012 -- topping the list in terms of per-capita expenditure on construction.
