A total of 5,600 trade licences have been renewed since the signing of the electronic link agreement between the Ministry of Labour and Department of Economic Development (DED) in Dubai from October 24 until November 10.

This was stated by Humaid bin Dimas, Executive Director of Labour Affairs at the Ministry of Labour, on the sidelines of the weekly meeting of the ministry.

He said: “This achievement has come as a result of the agreement that gives the opportunity to the establishments to perform their transactions without the need for the owner or his representative to visit the Ministry of Labour or the typing offices.

“This is applicable only to the transactions of the Department of Economic Development, whose electronic link provides all the data related to the facility, allowing the department to renew the licence and notify the owner by SMS.

Bin Dimas said this service will be followed by others soon after modifying the data for all establishments and sending it to the Department of Economic Development.

“This agreement is the first of its kind between a federal ministry and a local department,” said bin Dimas.

He said: “The agreement would enable the creation of an electronic database shared between the parties. The Department of Economic Development provides the Ministry of Labour the data of commercial licences issued by it.

“Also according to the agreement the Ministry of Labour will provide the Department of Economic Development the information and database of workers and enterprises and give department the authority to authenticate the licence of the facilities upon completion procedures of the licence, in addition to providing data and information on the facility when canceling the licence.”

Bin Dimas said this agreement would block the way to any manipulation or fraud in the transaction data submitted by the relevant parties and also gives the opportunity to them to ensure that there are no bogus establishments that are sponsoring workers without real work.

The Department of Economic Development prevents the issuance of licences to new establishments that are in violation of the labour law.
