An exclusively Indian trade fair will be held in Dubai in the first week of September in which various Indian government export promotion bodies and more than 200 private and public sector companies from India and the Middle East will showcase their products and services.

The Muscat-based Silver Star Corporation is organising the India Trade Fair 2013 with the support of Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi, the India Business and Professional Council (IBPC) and various departments of the government of India from September 3 to 5.

M K Lokesh, Indian Ambassador to the UAE, said though Indian companies and government departments and export promotion councils participate in major exhibitions in Dubai, there is no focused exhibition for Indian companies and products. So the Indian Embassy decided to support Silver Star Corporation’s initiative.
As bilateral trade between India and the UAE is growing and as the UAE is the second largest regional market for Indian exports, a trade fair exclusively focusing on Indian companies and products is expected to be a useful annual event for businesses in the two countries.

Bilateral trade between India and the Gulf states was $145 billion in 2011-12, which was only $67 billion five years ago, an increase of 116 per cent. The figure is expected to touch $175 billion soon.

The Department of Commerce of India’s Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises of the Government of India, Indian Embassy Abu Dhabi, Dubai’s Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing, All India Association of Industries, All India Rice Exporters Association, Basic Chemicals, Pharmaceuticals and Cosmetics Export Council, Coconut Development Board, Cotton Textiles Export Promotion Council of India, Electronics and Computer Software Export Promotion Council, Engineering Export Promotion Council, Export Promotion Council for Export Oriented Units and Special Economic Zones, the Kerala Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Khadi and Village Industries Commission, Organisation of Plastic Processors of India, PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Powerloom Development and Export Promotion Council and Projects Export Promotion Council of India are among the major participants in the India Trade Fair in Dubai which will become an annual event, according to P D Nath, managing director of Silver Star Corporation.

“India Trade Fair 2013 will exhibit a wide range of Indian products –railway equipment, packaging materials, rubber and rubber products, construction materials, steel products, sports goods, healthcare and pharmaceuticals, computers and software, garments and textiles. This will be an annual carnival for business with Indian companies,” he said.

Silverstar Corporation has been regularly conducting trade shows and exhibitions in neighbouring Oman, where an India trade fair every year attracts hundreds of companies form India and the region.

“India Trade Fair Dubai 2013 offers a gateway to the markets of UAE, GCC and Africa and holds good prospects for new business opportunities and tie ups. The event will provide a platform for Indian business houses and small and medium enterprises to launch their products and services not only in the UAE but in other Middle Eastern markets,” according to the event’s organisers.

The thrust areas of the trade fair include infrastructure, construction, engineering, project exports, oil and gas, power generation, mining, heavy industries, among others.

Jet Airways, the official airline of the event will offer 10 per cent discount on tickets for visitors to the India Trade Fair Dubai 2013 and an Indian food festival is to be organised by well-known chef Sanjeev Kapoor’s ‘Options’ during the three days of the exhibition serving north Indian, south Indian, and Rajastani food for visitors to the fair.
