The UAE sees more room for partnerships with the US for creating new facilities in the fields of defence and aerospace, Sheikha Lubna Al Qasimi, the UAE Minister of Foreign Trade, said.

"While the UAE has a strong relationship with many of the large US defense and aerospace companies, there is more scope to provide multiple sources for parts, and even a measure of self-sufficiency by creating capability at home, and creating jobs and a future for people in these sectors,” she said in her keynote address at an even organized by AmCham Abu Dhabi, the National Defense Industrial Association, and the US-UAE Business Council.

The event was organized in honor of the visit of the US Aerospace &  Defense Trade Mission to the UAE this week.

“The UAE and the US are reliable allies, with shared security and economic interests, Sheikha Lubna added.

''This is due to the fact that the UAE is a source of stability, tolerance, innovation, and growth in the Arabian Gulf and around the globe,” she said.

Among the attendees was the US Ambassador to the UAE, Richard Olsen.

The trade mission consists of 65 representatives from over 50 US companies in the defense and aerospace sectors who have arrived in the UAE to further deepen and strengthen the defense and commercial trade relationship between the two countries.

In addition to the major Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) in the US defense sector, over 40 Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), many of which have little or no current business activities in the UAE, will participate in the mission.
