Iraq’s southern governorate of Dhi Qar has presented 150 projects to Iranian companies and urged them to tap such opportunities in oil, power and other sectors, the province’s governor has said.

Hilal Al Sahlani said they outlined the projects at talks in Dhi Qar with representatives from several key companies from nearby Iran, adding that his government is planning to send a delegation to Tehran to discuss possible contract awarding.

Sahlani told Alsumaria news network that the talks with the Iranians are part of a drive by Dhi Qar to attract foreign capital into such sectors as hydrocarbon, electricity, manufacturing, tourism and agriculture.

“A delegation from Dhi Qar will soon visit Tehran to discuss the 150 project opportunities offered to Iranian companies…we want to meet them there and see their activities before awarding them any contracts,” he said.

“We are seeking qualified and experienced companies to carry out these projects, mainly in the electricity and energy sector…we want major Iranian companies to come to Dhi Qar to carry out some of those projects,” he added without elaborating on the projects or their costs.
