Iraq to spend $4.1bn on post-war reconstruction

Iraq has allocated 4.1 billion dollars for post-war reconstruction in liberated areas and more than half of the funds are in foreign aid, an Iraqi news network said on Thursday.

The rebuilding projects cover housing, water, power, schools, hospitals and other facilities in the areas which have been seized by government forces, Al-Sumeria said, quoting Iraqi Planning and International Development Minister Salman Al-Jameeli.

He said Iraq had received about 2.1 billion dollars from international donors, far more than the one billion dollars it had expected to get.

"We are working to rehabilitate liberated areas to help families return to their homes…we have also allocated two billion dollars for these projects besides the 2.1 billion dollars we have received from the donor countries,” he said.
