Kuwait intends to join the UAE in enforcing a new labour law giving more protection to foreign workers who dominate the private sector in the oil-rich Gulf emirat4e.

The new law will be enforced at the start of 2016 and it involves new benefits for the workers, including an annual holiday of at least 30 days nine months after the start of the job contract and a free air ticket at the end of the contract.

The Kuwaiti Arabic language daily ‘Al Anba’ published excerpts of the new law, which it said is intended to regulate the relationship between the employer and the employee and guarantee all rights of both parties.

The law permits the worker to postpone his annual holiday to two years to increase his days off and forces the employers to pay end-of-service benefits without any delay.

It set a probation period of 100 days for the worker and stipulated that the employers must make clear if the job contract has a specified or unspecified period.

The paper said the General Workforce Authority would ask the country’s diplomatic missions abroad to translate the new job contract to non-Arabic languages so the workers can understand its terms and get acquainted with his rights and duties.
