Saudi to launch restaurant, car index

Good services will be encouraged and bad facilities could be boycotted

Saudi Arabia is planning to launch a unique index for its restaurants, car shows and clothes shops to classify them as either good or bad, a move that will have a strong impact on customer demand, a newspaper said on Thursday.

The Gulf Kingdom’s Consumers’ Protection Association (CPA) will introduce the index that will measure facilities provided by those shops to encourage them to upgrade services and to curb malpractices in the domestic market.

“The index will cover clothes shops, restaurants, foodstuffs outlets and car dealers,” the Arabic language daily Alhayat said.It said the index would be divided into three rating categories-bad services which should be boycotted, watch list services, and confidence list.

“Data in the index will be available on the CPA’s website and will also be broadcast on the CPA’s TV channel which will be launched via the Egyptian Nilesat satellite shortly,” the paper said.
