Sharjah-China trade seen growing 11% to Dh18.3bn in 2014

Bilateral trade between Sharjah and China has been growing steadily and is expected to jump over 11 per cent this year to cross $5 billion (Dh18.35 billion), said an official.

Sultan Abdullah bin Hadda Al Suwaidi, Chairman of Sharjah Economic Development Department (Sedd) said China is a very crucial trade partner of the emirate as the two countries achieved a growth rate of 10% last year in bilateral trade.

Trade between Sharjah and China grew 10 per cent last year to “$4.5 billion (Dh16.51 billion) last year and it’s expected to exceed $5 billion by the end of this year,” said Al Suwaidi.

Sharjah Economic Development Department received Feng Juan Feng, Vice Chairman of Consultative Council of Shandong Province in China, and his accompanying delegation to promote trade, support international economic relations and increase promotion of Sharjah by establishing International Relations Division at the Department.

A presentation was given to the visiting Chinese delegation, highlighting the most active sectors and investment opportunities in the emirate of Sharjah.

Al Suwaidi said cooperation with Southeastern Asian countries, China in particular, will have positive impact on the emirate’s economy

Sedd represented the emirate of Sharjah by providing number of cooperation projects in the fields of developing small enterprises, supporting youth projects, cooperating in canning, wrapping, handling and shipping manufactures, as well as establishing building companies of government public service projects and private projects.
