Sony ships out 220,000 smartwatches

Sony says it has shipped in about 220,000 units of its Smartwatch 2 so far and there are enough stocks to cater to the demand in the UAE.

Sony launched its Smartwatch 2 in June this year and introduced it in the UAE in September. Priced at Dh799, the Smartwatch 2 that boats of updated features including a waterproof design and NFC connectivity sells at Jumbo and select Sony Mobile Stores.


A senior official from Sony told Emirates 24|7 that Sony is working on incorporating more added features including enhancing the design elements.

Gita Ghaemmaghami, Marketing and Communications Manager at Sony Mobile in the UAE said, “Youngsters are our main target audience. In our research we have found that the smartphone is more popular among the age group 18 to 35. Currently we have different coloured straps, even aimed at women. However we are even working on introducing something more fashionable,” said Ghaemmaghami.

According to her Sony’s Smartwatch 2 is the most advanced Android based smart watch in the market today providing connectivity with almost all android based smartphones, better battery life and more features and connected apps.

Earlier this week Sony updated the Smartwatch 2 app on the Android play store adding an easy scrolling feature, more watch faces, a stopwatch feature and auto brightness.
