Sony mobile has announced that its next flagship product will be announced in six months.

Senior company officials yesterday announced that they plan to unveil new models every six months, a break from the annual release of major players like Apple and Samsung.

“The idea is to come out with innovative products and bring them to the market as quickly as possible rather than aim for an annual routine,” said Izzat Kittaneh, Director Business Management at Sony MEA.

Sony has announced that the new Xperia Z2 and the Z2 tablet that was launched at the Mobile World Congress will hit the retail stores by mid April. The phone has been priced at Dh2649 and  the tablet at Dh2449.

The Xperia Z2  comes with the industry’s first noise cancelling technology and packs the camera with 4K capable video recording.

Sony says its latest device incorporates the company’s experiences in the camcorder industry with “a combination of the world’s best mobile camera and our most advanced camcorder ever in and 8.2 mm slim smartphone.”

“The focus has been on equipping the phone with additional multimedia features. We have identified that as a key strategy to move forward,” said a senior Sony official in Dubai.

It is clearly evident in the new machine that comes with a 20.7 mega pixel camera and 1/2.3-type Exmor RS for mobile CMOS image sensor, Sony’s award-winning G Lens and intelligent BIONZ for mobile image processing engine.

The G Lens has a 27 mm wide angle lens with F2.0 enabling better o=image quality even in low light conditions. The advanced BIONZ for mobile image-processing engine comes with motion detection with through its higher shutter speed enables blur-free images even when the subject is moving.

Sony has also preinstalled several camera and video apps like Timeshift Video, Background defocus, and info-eye.

Timeshift video mode captures high speed clips at 120 frames per second, and enables you to select a particular sequence to create slow motion effects.

Imagine you are a picture of a monument in a new city you are visiting and the Info-eye will pick up additional details about the subject through Wikipedia and other sources and instantly give you all the relevant information you need, right through your camera viewfinder.

The digital noise cancellation feature according to Sony will reduce unwanted noise by up to 98 per cent using the active noise control through a built in feature within the smartphone.

The Xperia Z2 mobile has a 5.2 display offering a Full HD experience. The phone is 8.2mm thick and runs on Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 2.3GHz quad-core processor, backed by 3GB of RAM and also features the Adreno 330 GPU for rich graphics and gaming and a dual ISP for better camera and display experience. Xperia Z2 also includes a large 3200 mAh battery, sufficient to last for more than a day.

Although Sony launched the new gadgets at the MWC it will only be available here by mid April. Samsung plans to release its Galaxy S5 by April 11. When asked for the reason for the delay Kittaneh said, “The launch event is timed based on important events. We time the product release based on the local market and marketing conditions. Otherwise there are no supply constraints” said Kittaneh.

According to him Sony is already in the top three segment in terms of market penetration in the Middle East and will continue to launch mew new premium products every six months.
