The UAE’s Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR) recently participated in the Third International Nuclear Knowledge Management Conference to highlight the country's experience in nuclear knowledge management.

Shaima Al Mansouri, FANR’s Education and Training Director, and staff members from the FANR Education and Training Department were part of the UAE delegation to the conference, organised by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) last week in Austria.

Al Mansouri presented to the international community the establishment and development of FANR’s nuclear knowledge management programme, which was launched in 2011 to ensure that FANR’s knowledge assets and skills are managed in an efficient and sustainable manner.

FANR’s efforts to enable Emirati women in the nuclear regulatory sector was showcased at the IAEA side event entitled, ‘Strengthening the Contribution of Women to Nuclear: Enablers and Barriers’.

Currently, 37 per cent of jobs at FANR are held by women.

As alumni of the International School of Nuclear Knowledge Management, Turky Al Mesmari, Manager of Knowledge Management at FANR, shared his experience on knowledge management practices applied at FANR and discussed ways of improvement.

Al Mesmari was a panellist on a session entitled, ‘Understanding the Importance of Knowledge Management in Ensuring Nuclear Safety’.

He was joined by panellists from other IAEA Member States such as Belgium, Hungary, Russia and the United Kingdom.

FANR also presented its knowledge management programme at the UAE booth in a side exhibition organised by the IAEA.

FANR’s nuclear knowledge management achievements includes winning the ‘Corporate Knowledge Management Initiatives Excellence Award’ in 2015 at the 21st GCC eGovernment and eServices Conference.
