Consul Generals of 10 cricketing nations along with their teams will participate in the third edition of Danube Diplomats Cup, which is to be staged in Dubai on Saturday, December 12.

The construction and building material company said in a media statement that the third edition of the Danube Diplomats Cup will be held at Indoor Turfs, Insportz, Al Quoz, Dubai.

India won the inaugural Danube Diplomats Cup earlier in 2013 while Pakistan are the reigning champions as they beat India last year in a keenly fought final in front of hundreds of supporters.

The third edition of the cup this year will host 10 teams: UAE, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, South Africa, Bangladesh, Australia, New Zealand and Afghanistan, divided into two groups of five each.

The firm said that the one-day cricketing event is the brainchild of Anis Sajan, Managing Director of Danube Group, wherein diplomats and counsel generals of 10 nations come together to play friendly cricket matches to win the coveted award.

“We are proud of the overwhelming response Diplomats Cup has received in last couple of years. We are hosting the third edition and it feels like we are on the right track with our vision to promote sports culture in the country,” said Sajan.

“The journey so far has been fulfilling and exciting and this year we welcome consul generals and teams from 10 nations to be a part of this tradition. This edition will see Waleed Bukhatir, son of legendary pioneer of cricket in the UAE, Abdul Rahman, in action as he comes out to lead the team UAE. With each passing year, Diplomats Cup reinforces our support and passion for cricket,” he added.

The firm said that supporters, fans and patrons can look forward to an electrifying atmosphere as supporters from across nations will be cheering for their respective teams.

“Everyone is invited for a great on- field action and off- field fun from 1 pm until midnight,” it noted, adding that there will also be a number of activities on the side-lines, including live music and art sessions, face painting, balloon modelling, henna, etc.

The overwhelming response during the past two editions, stands testimony to the fact that Danube Diplomats Cup once again will be a huge success.
