Apple has already dropped the prices of its older models and said the iPhone will be given away for free with a US cellular plan. Will the UAE telecom operators follow suit?
With the announcement of the iPhone5, the Cupertino-based technology giant last night dropped the prices of its iPhone4S by $100.
Those opting to go with a plan will now be able to get an iPhone4S starting from just $99 and the older iPhone for free.
Currently Etisalat has three different plans for the iPhone 4S. With the first option a subscriber will have to pay Dh2,449 for a 16GB model with 1000MB of free internet data, 200 local and 50 international minutes and 200 free national SMS per month. By paying Dh1,449, the subscriber will be able to get an iPhone4S for a contract period of 12 months with 2000MB data and 400 local and 100 international talk time free of extra cost. However for Dh449, consumers can get a 16GB model with a 12-month contract and 4000Mb of data apart from 800 national and 200 international minutes.
Du too has various options whereby an iPhone4S is available with the payment of monthly rental of Dh200 with a 2-year contact and 10GB of free data.
However it needs to be seen if the UAE operators will follow suit and further slash the prices of older models with the announcement of the new model.
