1.5kg cocaine in transit traveller's handbag

A Thailand transit passenger allegedly possessed more than 1.5kg of cocaine in a secret pocket made in the bottom of her handbag, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

Customs officers suspected SN, 32, upon her arrival at Dubai airport on November 11.

First Corporal Asma Adullah, 25, testified that her colleagues, who suspected SN, assigned her to search the transit passenger.

“Searching her body, I did not find any illegal substances on her. However, while searching her bag, I noticed an abnormal thickness in its bottom. The scanning device also showed drugs at the bottom of the handbag. Removing a plastic cover, we found a packet that contained the drug. The accused initially denied knowing anything about the drug, but later she confessed to possessing 1.583kg of cocaine,” Asma testified.

The prosecution asked the court to impose a stiff penalty on the accused.

The court adjourned the case for verdict until February 10.
