It could well be described as a hot crime plot from a movie script. For it involves a massive 2,250kg gold; $100,000 cash, clandestine meetings…and police chase.

A 31-year-old man from Chad who works as a broker allegedly sprayed a white powder on two Emiratis and made away with $100,000 (Dh3,67,330), the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

HIS, 29, Emirati, testified that on July 4, 2011, RSK, accused, called him informing him that he has some gold sets he wanted to put on the market. “I asked him why he does not sell them directly and he replied that as he was not an Emirati, he doubts of making a good profit.

“I ignored his call. But he continued ringing me up. At last I agreed to buy 2,250kgs of gold from him for $100,000.”

HIS said that he withdrew $50,000 from his account. His friend, AAH, 33, agreed to share the rest of the amount, he added.

They decided to meet at his friend’s place in Abu Dhabi. While he waited along with his friend, RSK met them with MAA and showed the sample of gold.

The victim testified that when he asked for the invoice, RSK made a phone call and told them a person would get it to them. After some time, they were told that said person had some emergency and would be able to make it. “We decided to meet in Dubai the next day and left. The following day,

I got a call from RSK who said he was ready with the gold and the invoices. I called my friend and asked him to come to Dubai and at around 2.43pm.

We met behind Al Bustan centre upon RSK’s request. He asked us to drive around and make the deal in the car, so that nobody suspects us.

“Once inside the car, when we showed the money, he sprayed some powder at us, snatched the envelopes which contained the money and ran away.”

“In their rush to flee, they left behind two mobile phones in the car. So I took them,” claimed HIS.

His friend AAH, repeated the same testimony.

Police made the arrests shortly.

The court adjourned the case to January 13.
