A two-year-old Egyptian boy was killed when he was run over by a car driven by a Pakistani man in Dubai after he broke loose from his mother and ran to the street.

The accident occurred in Hor al Anz area on Friday and Dubai’s traffic police chief described it as a worrying mishap that requires criminal probe.

“The driver said he did not see the child because of his little size,” Major General Mohammed Saif Al Zafin told the Arabic language daily Emirat Alyoum.

“This type of accident is really alarming and should be investigated by traffic and criminal experts to determine how it happened. I cannot imagine that such a little child should move on the road on his own because he could be killed if knocked over no matter how fast the car is going.”

He said claims by the driver that he did not see the child on the road could be true given the boy’s little size, adding that investigations would determine what exactly happened.

“But no matter what the result of the investigation is, the boy’s mother or any one else who was with him will have to bear part of the responsibility.”
