26,000 Tramadol pills, 26kg of hashish seized

Nearly 25,000 Tramadol pills and 26 kilogrammes of hashish have been seized by Ras Al Khailmah Police.

Commander-in-chief of Ras Al Khaimah Police Major General Sheikh Talib bin Saqr Al Qasimi said anti-narcotics units of Ras Al Khaliham, Dubai and Sharjah seized the contraband in a joint operation.

Colonel Ibrahim Ali, head of the anti-narcotic department of Ras Al Khaimah Police, said the they had got a reliable a tip off from Dubai Police that an Asian expatriate possessed large quantities of drugs.

He added that the drug peddler was arrested after a trap was set for him.

Investigations and legal procedures have been completed and the arrested man will be referred to court for trial, he said.

Most countries, including the UAE, have restricted use of the painkiller and listed it as a dangerous substance.

Cleaner had large number of drug tablets

ASA, a 65-year-old Pakistani cleaner, allegedly possessed for promotional purpose 10,800 Tramadol and Procyclidine  tablets, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

Dubai police received a tip off that a Pakistani called Amir possessed drug tablets. Police checked the information and arrested him red handed when he was selling tablets to a police informer for Dh8,000 in Ajman’s industrial area. Drug tablets found in his car were also confiscated.

“Amir confessed to selling drugs to the informer earlier and claimed that he got the drugs from ASA. Amir was used to trap ASA by arranging a meeting with him. The two agreed to meet in the Naif area of Dubai,” testified first policeman Ali Mohammed.

Police confiscated 10,310 Tramadol and 492 Procyclidine tablets from ASA.

ASA denied dealing in drugs.

The court will reconvene on January 14.
