A Bangladeshi cleaner was sentenced to six months in jail on Tuesday for stealing Dh10 from a charity box at a mosque.

The Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance also ordered deportation of the 25-year-old RIA after serving his jail term.

According to the records, security guard, ABB,42, seized the cleaner after he became suspicious of him when the convict was standing close to the charity box and then putting hand in his pocket.

The incident took place at the Dragon Mart in International City.

“I suspected the cleaner and went to him; I asked him what he was doing there, he became confused and instantly threw a piece of metal inside the mosque,” he testified.

The security guard found that it was a metal wire used by the worker to pull coins from the charity box. He took him to the security office and called his manager, who searched the worker and found 10 coins in his pocket stolen from the donation box, according to the records.

The cleaner was also accused of attempting to steal Dh25 that he could not steal as he’s caught by the security guard.

The worker confessed to stealing the money from the box.
