The Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) in Sri Lanka have arrested a man carrying nine kilogrammes of heroin with a street value of Rs60 million (Dh1.7 million), according to a report in ‘Divaina’.

The suspect has been arrested with nine parcels packed with heroin and hidden in a van on information obtained from four suspects arrested earlier in connection with a massive heroin haul detected by the security forces on June 12.

PNB has also arrested another suspect from the same area soon after earlier arrest totaling eight suspects.

Although PNB had identified two masterminds behind the country’s drug deal as Wele Suda and Mohammed Siddiq, who operate from abroad despite the red notices issued to them, they were not able to identify the suspects whom the heroin was to be delivered.

PNB is conducting further investigations to apprehend more suspects connected with the incident.

Meanwhile, ‘Ada Derana’ reported that police have recovered 10 kilogrammes of heroin during a raid over the last few days with a street value of over Rs60 million.

Three suspects arrested in this connection will be produced before the magistrate courts.

According to the police, the heroin was hidden in cement buckets with cement poured over it to conceal the drugs.
