Ajman public servant to be deported

A court in Ajman sentenced a Syrian working at a government department to one year in prison and ordered his deportation from the UAE after he was convicted of taking bribe, a newspaper reported on Monday.

Police arrested the employee after an undercover cop paid him Dh4,000 to help him in having his papers stamped and cleared at the department.

Police sent an undercover officer after receiving a tip-off that the employee was charging that sum as a fee for illegal document-clearing at the department.

“The undercover cop pretended to be a customer and gave him his papers to have them cleared. He also paid him Dh4,000 as bribe. Police arrested the employee after having those papers stamped and cleared,” the Arabic language daily 'Al Bayan' said.
