Alternative healer 'abuses' trainee

An Asian practitioner of alternative medicine is standing trail in Dubai Criminal Court for allegedly sexually assaulting his trainee.
 
The 47-year-old Indian refuted claims of the victim and said his act was part of the treatment, the court heard on Tuesday.
 
The 22-year-old woman, who was training under the suspect to become an alternative healer developed a gynaecological condition and the latter offered to treat her.
 
After making her comfortable he began pressing her forehead and massaging her body parts. The young woman claimed that the suspect has the ability to knock off consciousness of patients. Therefore, it was only after almost three sessions that she realised he was abusing her.
 
The suspect is a well-known alternative healer in India, according to the victim. Her father was his regular client and he offered to train the victim in alternative medicine.
 
So she started visiting his clinic from September last year and checked patients under his supervision.
 
The suspect is being prosecuted for sexual assault and practising medicine without licence.
 
He has denied the charges.
 
Court has been adjourned until April 19.
