Arab woman dies after being hit by a car in Dubai

the 20 years old victim crossed the road while the signal is green

A 20-year-old Arab woman was killed in a road accident when she was run over by a car near Al Mulla Plaza intersection over the weekend, reported Al Bayan newspaper.

The General Department of Dubai Traffic Police said the young Arab woman died at the spot while she was trying to cross the street near the pedestrian crossing.

Brigadier Saif Muhair Al Mazroui, Director of Dubai Traffic Police, said that the operation room has received a tip off at 7.45am of an incident at the intersection of Al Mulla Plaza from the direction of Sharjah to Dubai.

Taffic patrols were immediately dispatched to the scene and located the driver of the car, an Asian national, who was involved in the accident.

The driver explained the victim attempted to cross the street 40 meters away from the pedestrian crossing, while the traffic light was still green. The driver claimed he attempted to stop the vehicle in time but was unable to do so.

The driver was suffered of minor injuries due to the accident.

Brigadier Al Mazrouei said that the ambulance arrived at the scene and tried to save the victim but she died on the spot because of the severity of the collision, which threw her body away. 

He pointed out that the victim did not realise the gravity of crossing the street; especially this road. which has several lanes and witnesses high density of traffic during the morning rush hour.

He added that it has been referred the case to the Dubai Traffic public prosecution to take the legal action.

Brigadier Al Mazrouei confirmed that Dubai Police constantly launches awareness campaigns to raise awareness of the seriousness of crossing places not allocated for pedestrians. 

He disclosed that a fine of Dh200 has been levied against people who cross roads from places not meant for pedestrians.
