An auditor allegedly attempted to steal 17 tonnes of cement  from his employer with the help of a truck driver, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

According to court records, a year before the incident, the company discovered thefts after a difference of about one million dirhams was found in its diesel account.  So the company’s management decided to tighten security at points of exit and entry of materials.

Last December 29, MS, 42, suspected a truck exiting the company’s gate. “I stopped a truck and found a large quantity of cement that was not unloaded in the company’s store. I informed the management,” MS told investigators.

The company investigated and found out that the auditor was in charge of checking the load of the truck, RS, manager, told investigators.  The company’s auditor, BS, 41, was assigned to weigh the cement.

When questioned, the auditor admitted that he did not record the quantity of cement in the truck in the company’s electronic system.

The company reported the incident to the police who came and arrested the auditor and the driver on the charge of attempted theft.

The court will reconvene on November 6.
