A Court of Cassation in Abu Dhabi sentenced an Indonesian housemaid to death after she was convicted of killing her employer’s baby by banging his head against the bed and the wall, press reports said on Wednesday.

The court issued the sentence against the defendant after the parents of the four-month-old Malak rejected diya (blood money) and insisted on the killer’s death.

A court of first instance had earlier sentenced the maid to death after she was shown on camera carrying Malak, who was injured and bleeding. A court of appeals upheld the sentence.

The maid had earlier denied murdering the little boy, claiming he just fell off. She later confessed to the murder and said she did so because she did not like his babysitter.
