A Bangladeshi, along with accomplices, assaulted a Pakistani on a street in Dubai, dragged him into an on old house where a group of men beat him up and stole his wallet which contained Dh5,800 and two mobile phones worth Dh3,000.

The victim MO, 26, Pakistani driver, was walking along a road on February 17 at around 9pm talking on his mobile phone.

GD, 35, stopped him, claiming to be a CID officer, and started shouting at him. An Iranian intervened and the two beat him and dragged him into an old house.

“A group of men gathered around me and beat me up with bars, knives, chairs and kitchen tools. But I managed to run away from them. Searching my pockets I found out that they had stolen my wallet and two mobile phones,” the victim told investigators.

The victim lodged a complaint at the Naif police station and gave descriptions of the first two attackers. He was also rushed to hospital for treatment of his wounds.

Police investigated the complaint and information led to a group of men living in an old house in the area. Police raided the house and arrested its residents. The victim recognised one of the suspects when shown to him via identification parade.

The accused was the man who stopped him on the road, claiming to be a CID officer. Searching the house, police did not find any of the victim’s belongings. The residents of the house were also involved in other cases, testified a police officer.

The Court will reconvene on May 12.
