Cops end strike by 30 inmates at police stations

Dubai Police ends hunger strike by detainees in two stations - Dubai Ports Police Station and the Bur Dubai Station.

Colonel Mohammed Nasser Abdul Razak, Deputy Director, General Department of Criminal Investigation, Dubai Police, said 10 inmates of Ports Station was the first to go on strike early this week, when their demand for outside food and cigarettes were not granted.

CID officials spoke with the protesting detainees and explained and showed them the list of prohibited items and practises as per the law while in detention. They understood the law and ended thier strike, reported 'Al Bayan'.

Similarly, 20 GCC detainees at the Bur Dubai Police Station, all charged in drug cases, protested on Saturday morning and threatened to burn the cell. They resorted to riots, demanding that their families be allowed to bring them food and they granted permission to smoke. Cops explained that their demands were banned as per law.
